Understanding art by it's movements

This week I want you to explore a movement in art that you're not already familiar with. By studying art's movements, and the artists who created them, you'll grow your knowledge of art in both theory and practice. Get outside your comfort zone and pick a movement that perhaps doesn't appeal to you. Research it. Learn about the work that came out of it. My hope is that this lesson will help you come to appreciate different artists and works than you do now.

This assignment has two parts.

The first part is writing a one-page paper about one of the following artistic movements in the first list. The second part is to write a one-page paper about one of the artists in the second list. You can choose to write about an artist that came from the movement you chose, or you can write about an artist outside of the movement you chose. I will leave that up to you. Please take your time and try your best to make these papers as detailed as needed to get your point across.

Each paper can be more than one-page each, if you find it necessary to write more to get your points across. But each paper MUST be at least one full, single-spaced page. Remember, paragraphs (by definition) are a minimum of four sentences. A sentence must contain both a subject and a predicate. Have someone proofread your papers and make corrections. While I won't necessarily be grading this on grammar or structure, they must be readable. If you hurt my brain, your grade will suffer.

Do your research. I'm ok with you using internet sources for your papers, but please use CREDIBLE ones. (Wikipedia is NOT a credible source.) Please feel free to venture out to a library and use a real book or three, if you're feeling a little crazy. :) You will have class time to do your research and write your papers so make sure you use your time wisely.

I also want you to read Chapter 2 on Searching and Sampling in your textbook. Please take the time to read and understand it. There may be a quiz on it in the near future. (hint, hint)
